Zilal Fi Al Noor Latest Commission for the Alwani Middle Eastern Orchestra, to be premiered on September 20th, 2025
Maile Pacumio (b.2002) is a Filipino-Thai composer currently based in Los Angeles, California. Her work explores cultural identity and musical tradition through narrative driven compositions inspired by film and video game soundtracks.
Maile was born in California and studied piano and flute growing up. She holds a B.M Applied Arts & Sciences in Music Composition from San Diego State University, and is currently pursuing her Masters of Music at California State University of Long Beach working as a graduate teaching assistant for multiple undergraduate music courses.
Pacumio’s work has been premiered and recorded in California and internationally by ensembles such as Left Coast Chamber Ensemble, Counter)Induction, CSULB Symphony Orchestra, and Alwani Middle Eastern Orchestra, among many others; she is a three-time winner of the San Diego New Music Emerging Composers Competition, and a 2025 fellow at the Alba Music Composition Program in Italy.
Maile is passionate about music education and is committed to creating compositions accessible to youth ensembles, aiming to inspire young musicians and enrich their learning experiences.
Since 2024, she has served as Composer in Residence for Alwani Middle Eastern Orchestra. She is dedicated to promoting the rich and vibrant heritage of Middle Eastern music through her own musical voice. For their 2025-2026 season, she will be serving as one of the Composers in Residence for the Turkish American Orchestra. Through music, she strives to showcase the beauty and diversity of all musical traditions.
